This is the last week of our theme "Where We are In Place and Time" To wrap up our unit we will be doing 2 assessments. the first is a salt dough elevation map and the second will be an exploration tool. For each of these projects we will need some donations of salt dough and supplies like toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, cereal boxes, popsicle sicks, etc... If you could please send the supplies in by Wednesday that would be appreciated. Each student will also need a 12x12 piece of cardboard to put their map on. The IXL assignments for the week are E1, F1, and F2
Last week we had lots of fun learning about the three types of volcanoes: shield, cinder cone, and composite. We also learned about the stages of them: active, dormant, and extinct. We are also putting together our short documentaries on the Native Americans and took our chapter 1 math test on place value. This coming week we have an exciting guest speaker coming on Wednesday. Her name is Emily Lamas and she is a Geologist from UVU. She will be talking with us about weathering and erosion. We will need at least 1 parent volunteer for this visit to help with a science experiment. The visit will be from 10am-12pm. Parents please email me if you are interested in volunteering. For ixl.com Students will need to log on and do c.1,c.3, and d.2 and if you would like you can work ahead on anything in the c section or the d section.
We had a great week learning more about maps, longitude, (the earth has long hair) and latitude (a big ape is climbing the ladder of the earth) and volcanoes. We learned about how the earth has a crust, like a cherry pie and there is magma bubbling underneath trying to find a hole to bubble out of. When it comes out that cherry filling that escapes is called lava.
